VTennis News - Maria Sharapova NewsMaria Sharapova Blasts into 4th round of the Australian Open - Jan-07 Top-seed Maria Sharapova booked her spot in the fourth round of the Australian Open on Saturday. This was after she may have not made it through the first round due to injury and the heat playing Canille Pin of France. This would have been the first time that a number one seeded player had lost in the first round of the Australian Open. Sharapova remained resilient in her opening tennis match winning through six-three, four-six, nine-seven. Maria Sharapova won through her third round match with greater ease as she beat Tathiana Garbin of Italy six-three, six-one. "I thought I was a bit slow in the beginning of the match — didn't really adjust," she explained. "I was letting her play her game a little too much. "But I felt like as the match went on, I moved a lot better. I saw the short balls a lot quicker, put pressure on her." Commented Sharapova.
