Marie Pierce defeated Elena Dementieva 6-2, 6-3, her second victory in the Black Group putting her within sight of the knock-out round.

Elena Dementieva in Philadelphia Final - Oct-05
Elena Dementieva seeded fourth (4) successfully progressed into the final of the women’s Advanta Championship in Philadelphia where she met Amelie Mauresmo of France (3) - 2005.
In a hard fought match, Dementieva was two points away from victory when she twice double faulted allowing Mauresmo to tie at 5-5 in the final set. After this Mauresmo forced Elena Dementieva’s into numerous errors, thus securing a third consecutive Advanta title.
Final score: 7-5 2-6 7-5 .
Elena Dementieva beats Dechy - Oct-05
Seeded fourth Elena Dementieva passes to the next round of the Zurich Open-05, to reach the quarter finals.
Dechy made it to break point before Dementieva’s determination saw her through.
Final score: 5-7 6-2 6-4.
